Hurricanes win Season 12…

After all the action on the pitch and off it last week, sane minds prevailed and almost identical teams faced off to replay the final game of Season 12 with everything to play for.

Vicky and the Hurricanes won the toss and went back to what has worked best for them all season which is to unleash their bowling on the Wolves and chase down any target given .

On paper the teams were evenly stacked , deep batting , genuine wicket takers and two captains astute at leading their troops to a win.

However the real backstory did not even happen at the maidaan. AK had a super important work meeting that he had to attend , Sameer had such a poor shoulder that he should have been no where near a cricket ground and Harsha just off a plane at 3:30 am from an international trip and had his daughters already postponed birthday to host . But come 8 AM, and these three Hurricanes were there ready for battle. Kudos to the one and only Vicky for getting these vital cogs to be there for the all important final.

“WHAT YOU DO IS UPTO YOU. Be Legendary”

Coming to the game itself, the Wolves got off to a dream start thanks to Manoj and Raghu who supercharged them to 25 off the first two overs . In a final full of nerves, this was as good as it gets as it means the bowling side needs to start making changes to its bowling plans sooner than ideal . But this is where heroes step in. Heroes don’t need to do superhuman things, they only need to be brave and humble . That’s exactly what Vikram in a fantastic spell of bowling along with the ever dependable Dhruv did. Tight lines, wicket to wicket meant runs were onerous to get. With Arjun also coming in and settling in well, the scoring was mostly singles and a few boundaries here and there . Samir was looking in great touch but did not get the support from the other end which would have ensured that the Wolves got to a total where they could expose their fangs.

The Wolves ended up at exactly 100 in 15 overs but scored only 55 in 12 overs for the loss of 8 wickets off the bowling of Dhruv, Vikram and Arjun. Truly good stuff for a game played in the driest of conditions.

The Hurricanes opened with a brand new combo pushing AK down the order. More than strategy it was because Bipin and Harsha needed to leave . But did they work out or not. Hurricanes got off to a flier thanks to a belligerent Harsha who smoked Susmit out of the attack . A special word for Harsha. He was in dessert storm mode. In the last Sunday game which was turning out to be a humdinger he played a knock of sublime beauty and assurance which only he could . We never covered the match itself but that knock can’t be forgotten for the adversity in which it was played . He started off today from where he left off.

Boom boom Bipin did not know his flight to singapore was only next weekend but he got into the groove quickly before he was undone by a full toss that was a marginal call. That brought Sameer to the crease. Sameer is a monster and quintessential team man. While his batting was all beast mode it was a stop he made at the walled boundary that had everyone stand up and applaud. The guy is all about no guts no glory.

Soon enough with both Harsha and Sameer going hammer and tongs the Hurricanes were 60 in 4 overs and the game pretty much pocketed.

Sameer soon perished and Naren was sent up the order to show what he was made of. Naren is one of our newer players but the guy has enough cricket in him and he is left handed which itself is a special skill at the maidaan because of our dimensions . AK joined him after Harsha finally getting out with around 14 to win in 9 overs.

Naren cover drove a beautiful boundary and let AK wrap up proceedings. It was a great moment for AK who has been giving the Hurricanes, FMCG starts all season to hit the winning runs. A truly resounding win for the Hurricanes to take the season 15-13.

MoM: Harsha for killing the match in the first 4 overs of the chase.

Hurricanes MVP: AK….AK…..AK….

Wolfpack MVP: The redoubtable Satya who excelled with ball , bat and wicket keeping. Well done buddy ❤️.

In the post season conversation we also decided to have two new captains for the next season. Congratulations Chaitanya and Dhruv. Onto Season 13 boys !!!!
