A match of many disappointing firsts…
What was supposed to be the grand season finale which everyone was eagerly awaiting turned out to be a morning that most of us want to quickly forget but will probably remain as the most talked game that did not happen .
Scratch that …a game that was on a tight rope after 20.3 overs bowled but ended up being abandoned after tempers frayed to a point of no return. The point of this piece is not to delve into why and what happened but to remind us all of what got us all here .
Since our first games in 2018 to a formal season with teams in 2019 this group has been a fulcrum of positivity, togetherness and brotherhood. People request that they be allowed into this coterie and everyone knows that we all feed off each other and more importantly have each others backs.
Do we have fights and arguments? What a stupid question. Most of us use that as an excuse to improve our games or find excuses in it. It’s always been an integral part of our existence at the maidaan. 150 minutes of regaining our childhood. And hopefully one day humming the song “ This used to be my playground..”
Then why did it get this out of hand. Everyone wants to win but do we like ugly wins at any cost . Can saying sorry post saying the worst shit ever make things better? Should someone not have taken charge and controlled the situation better? All good questions which also left me shocked once we left the ground . The first thought was ….What the friggin hell did we all just do???
The 3 young boys who look up to us. Not sure anymore . They actually left the ground while we were kicking up a storm saying they wanted to have no part of this.
I think we are far better than this. We owe it to each other . Most of us can’t function without this group. I definitely cannot. My weekends without cricket are a crapper.
So let’s get past this one. I know the mid innings huddle was cringe but we tried .
